Carmina is the CEO and Founder of InvestEd- the Philippines’ most sustainable and inclusive student loan company. Under her leadership, InvestEd has provided financial aid to hundreds of students and received more than Php 35 million in funding from individuals and institutions. Carmina has garnered numerous awards such as The Philippines’ Outstanding Women in Nation’s Service, Cartier Women’s Initiative Laureate for Southeast Asia, Obama Asia Pacific Leaders, and Dubai World Expo’s Top 120 Global Innovators.
Carmina strongly believes that education and technology for good is the key to any nation’s advancement. As a college student, she was already managing multiple scholarship funds through her youth organizations. Over the past 8 years, she has also trained more than 6,000 youth in topics of employment, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship. Carmina is also the Development Director of the Domingo Artificial Intelligence Research Center in the University of the Philippines, Los Banos- a foundation focused on AI solutions for healthcare. Carmina previously worked with Smarter Good Inc.- a firm that raises millions of dollars for social enterprises around the world. She also worked on projects with leading institutions such as Ashoka, Australian National University, Lutheran World Relief, and USAID.
After years of immersion in the problem of education financing, both locally and globally, Carmina decided it was time to start InvestEd. Her dream to this day is to see a world where opportunity to succeed is always paid forward to those who don’t have it.
Carmina has a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of the Philippines; three certificate courses from the Asian Institute of Management on Entrepreneurship, Startup Management and Data Strategy and a Social Entrepreneurship Certificate from INSEAD.
Ronald brings to the role a decade of experience from large corporations such as Coca-Cola Philippines and various faculties at the University of Toronto (Business, Engineering, and Education). His broad experience enabled him to develop his expertise in behavioral data science, which was instrumental in creating InvestEd’s credit scoring algorithm and award-winning coaching platform. At the helm of InvestEd, Ronald is committed to fostering inclusion and equity in the education financing sector. Ronald is an advocate of LGBTQ+ empowerment in the workplace and is also a strong ally of women.
Ronald Replan finished his Master of Business Administration (Dean’s List) at the University of Toronto Rotman School of Management. Ronald was also selected by Poets and Quants as one of the 30 Pioneering MBA Students of Class 2019 from North American Schools. He is also the founder of the Thousand Books Project, an annual book drive geared towards improving the literacy of over 5,000 grade school children from low-income villages in the Philippines.
Alex is with Beneficial Returns, an impact debt fund that seeks to alleviate poverty through business solutions. His abiding passion is to help create flourishing communities – people collaborating to help one another to be the best that they can be.
His passion for this work stems from a deep belief in the inherent productive capacity within every individual. He is convinced impact investing wisely is among the most efficacious in releasing the latent potential from among the poor, and hopes to deploy capital purposefully for the common good. Alex has passed all three levels of the CFA exam. In his last employment, he was Managing Director and CEO of Bank of America Singapore.
Jobi currently leads the Development Lending Sector of the Development Bank of the Philippines. The Sector handles all lending products (other than salary and back-to-back loans) within the bank. Prior to joining DBP, he headed the Corporate and Financial Institutions Lending unit of the Manila branch of Dutch banking giant ING Bank N.V. where he was responsible for overall structuring and implementation of lending transactions to corporates and financial institutions. Previous to that, he was a Director of Citicorp International Limited, based in Hong Kong, where he handled the overall origination, structuring and implementation of Export Credit Agency- supported and/or limited recourse project finance transactions for both the Philippines and Indonesia.
His current stint in DBP brings his career full circle, as he started his career in the public sector. He also held the rank of Assistant Secretary, and headed the International Finance Group of the Department of Finance.
Jobi is a passionate education advocate, grounded by his own story as a testament to the life-changing power of completing a college degree. “We’re a very young country…and now is the time to actually invest, because otherwise, if you miss this generation what’s going to happen? Hopefully, when we invest in this resource (our young people), we’ll be able to help our country in moving forward,” Jobi said.
Melissa is the Cofounder of InvestEd. Her former experience as a preschool teacher has engendered a firm belief in the role of education as a social equalizer. She is also an advocate for Women Empowerment, and is involved with Sinaya Cup, a Philippine social enterprise that helps marginalized women in rural areas access eco-friendly hygienic products.
Melissa graduated Cum Laude in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the Philippines. As a former Oblation Scholar of the University, Melissa is committed to paying it forward and enabling other youth with the opportunity to succeed through her work.
